This craft activity is based on the Fine Arts Center’s Art Deco architectural design created by Santa Fe architect John Gaw Meem in 1936. The plan submitted by Meem was revolutionary at the time; he envisioned all of the arts activities taking place in one building! The architect combined Art Deco’s modern styling and the traditional forms of the Southwest pueblo style.

Supplies needed:
Photocopy of the building design on cardstock or heavier weight paper.
Exacto blade or wallpaper blade
Metal strait edge or ruler with metal straight edge
Protected surface on which to cut
Directions
Using the straight edge cut all the solid vertical lines very carefully.
Fold the mountain folds along the dotted lines. Mountain folds fold toward you.
Use your fingernail to crease the fold and give it a crisp edge.
Fold the valley folds along the dash lines. Valley folds fold away from you. Crease these edges also.
Page will fold in half along the dash lines.
Mount on darker colored paper. 9” x 12” construction paper works great. Have fun!
This Pop Up Art was created by Nicole Kuhar in 1996.
